As part of the National Skills Week, WPC Group held a workshop on the essential link career advisors play in communicating the options and opportunities for young people as they make the transition from school to work. With 190 people in attendance, including over 32 schools WPC Group broke from the traditional ‘power point and speaker outline’ and gave people the opportunity to hear first hand from both people doing and apprenticeship as well as trainees. The event was opened by the Hon. Peter Hall, Minister for Higher Education and Skills and Minister responsible for the Teaching profession. Charlie Evan’s from Urban Eco was one of the highlights of the event with his landscaping display and a word from one of his young apprentices. We received great feedback from the audience on the morning show style of the event, hosted by Kim Watkins, which gave attendees a chance to hear from employers and employees in an interactive setting.
Dean Rioli and Sian Morley gave the audience a overview of WPC Groups Shake A Leg program which assists indigenous candidates into employment in apprenticeships and traineeships along the east coast of Australia.
